The air gap is the product quality
A clip that lies close acts like a tinted filter in front of your Rx. A clip that stands off 4–6mm is a second set of reflections. Custom and brand magnetics get this right more often than ‘one size’ airport clips.
Weight: 8–15g extra on the nose. If your indoor pair already slides, a clip will make it ruder. Fix the bridge first.
Who they suit
Progressive wearers who do not want to buy a second corridor. Strong prescriptions that make a fashion sun pair expensive. Drivers who want polarization only in the car. Rimless hosts are fussy; acetate full-rims are easy.

Loss and scratch
Clips live in the case with a felt side toward the host lenses. They are easy to leave in a restaurant. A $15 spare clip in the glovebox is cheaper than rage. Polarize the driving one.
