Lenses, not just frames

How to Buy Glasses Online Without a Bad Fit

Copy a frame that already sits, use a real PD, and stay single-vision unless you know your fitting height. The return window is part of the product.

How to Buy Glasses Online Without a Bad Fit — still life for this Eyewear guide on Nonchallant

The measurements that actually transfer

Rx: sphere, cylinder, axis, add if any, and whether it is distance or near. PD: measured, not guessed. Frame: match a sitting pair within 2mm on bridge and 5mm on temple. Lens width can move 2–4mm if you know you wanted larger or smaller.

‘Try-on’ apps get shape in the ballpark and miss bridge height. If your last acetate sat on your cheeks, you need a different last, not a different filter.

What to order, and what not to

Good online: mild single vision, a copy of a frame you already wear, extra sun in the same shape. Bad online: first progressive, first wrap sport Rx, a 1.74 fashion rimless you have never touched.

When it arrives

Wear them two full days before you panic, unless the swim is immediate and nauseous — then stop. Check PD-sensitive issues: you should not have to look off-centre to clear a screen. Returns: keep the case and the mailer. A $10 optician tweak on a $59 pair is allowed and often the whole difference.

Questions, answered

Are online lenses lower quality?
Some are fine poly with AR. Some are uncoated and already scratched. Read whether AR and a hard coat are included, not the homepage adjective.
Can I send an old frame in?
Many labs will reglaze. That is often the best online purchase: lenses you specify, chassis you already fitted.
What about sunglasses online?
Easier if you copy a size. Still demand a UV400 claim you believe, or meter them when they land.
