How to stay under 40L without pretending you own less
Wear the bulky layer on the plane. One cube for shirts, one for bottoms, one dirty. A 1L liquids bag, not a 3L dopp. If the trip needs a second bag, a packable tote for the market day is 80 g; a 50L “just in case” pack is a cobblestone injury. Under-40L only works if the shoes stay at two pairs including the ones on your feet.
