How to Choose a Bath Rug That Dries and Stays Put
Cotton 1000–1400 GSM, 50 × 80 cm, washable at 40C, backing that is rubber not crumbling foam. Memory-foam mats feel kind on day one and sour on day forty.

GSM and size, not spa vocabulary
Under 700 GSM is a thin mat that dries fast and feels mean. 1000–1400 GSM is the useful band: enough pile to take a 70 × 140 cm body’s drip, not so much it stays wet until evening. 50 × 80 cm fits a typical vanity-to-shower gap. Runners 50 × 150 cm are for a double vanity, not a 1.8 m² ensuite.
Cotton or a cotton-linen mix. Microfiber dries fast and goes slick when oily. Memory foam is a closed-cell pad with a sock on it; once water is in, it stays.

Backing that does not rot the floor
Thermoplastic rubber dots or a separate underlay. Cheap latex crumb on stone is a brown tattoo. If you have underfloor heat, check the backing. Hang the mat over the bath edge after the morning shower if the GSM is 1400 and the room has no fan.
Wash it on the towel clock, not the annual clock
Every 3–7 days with the towels. It is a floor towel. A shower curtain on a 2–4 week clock — how to wash a shower curtain — is slower because it is not under wet feet. When the pile is permanent-flat and the backing powders, replace. That is 2–4 years on a $25–$50 cotton mat.

- Same fibre family, related colour. A 1400 GSM white rug with 350 GSM printed towels looks like leftovers.
- Two small mats or one runner?
- Two 50 × 80 cm mats you can wash and dry beat one 50 × 180 cm runner that never finishes in a 7 kg machine.
- Is a towel on the floor enough?
- A sacrificial 400 GSM towel works and you will slip on it. A rubber-backed rug is the 30-second safer object.
