How to Clean a Leather Jacket: Cloth, Conditioner, Not a Soak
A leather jacket is a hide, not a hoodie. Wipe it. Condition it twice a year. A washing machine is how you get a shrunk, stiffened, ruined coat.

Water in volume is the enemy
Leather can take a rainstorm and a wipe. It cannot take a bathtub. The hide swells, the lining shrinks differently, dyes migrate, and it dries into cardboard. Spot. Do not dunk. A specialist leather cleaner is $40–80 and cheaper than a new jacket.
Cleaner then conditioner, like shoes
Dirt plus balsam is mud you polished in. Clean first, then feed. Neutral cream on a fashion jacket; a slightly richer balsam on a stiff cowhide biker. Skip kitchen oils. Skip shoe wax on a whole jacket unless you want a stiff, shiny panel. The shoe version of this split is cream vs wax; here you almost always want cream.
Storage and the lining
Wide hanger, stuffed sleeves if it will sit a season, breathable bag, no attic. The lining can be spot-cleaned; a full lining replacement is a tailor. Cedar in the closet is fine. Mothballs in a leather sleeve are how you smell like a basement at dinner.

- Can I use baby wipes?
- Occasionally on a hem in a pinch. They leave film and some are too wet. A cloth is the tool.

- Hang it, wipe it, let it dry at room temp, then condition. Do not put it on a heater. Do not wear it wet to “shape it.”

- Brush and protector, no cream. Different animal. A soaked suede jacket is a professional.
