How to Pack a Carry-On for 10 Days (Without a Third Pair of Shoes)

Ten days is a wash-once trip, not a suitcase of outfits. Merino, two shoes, a palette of three. The third shoe is how you check a bag.

How to Pack a Carry-On for 10 Days (Without a Third Pair of Shoes) — still life for this Wardrobe guide on Nonchallant

Ten days is eight outfits plus a wash

You do not need ten unique looks. You need a week of mixes and a mid-trip sink. Two merino tops, one shirt, one knit, one spare; jeans you fly in, a trouser, a short or skirt if the climate wants it. Colour-story still applies — every piece has to go with two others.

Underwear and socks: ten if you refuse to rinse, five if you will. That is the only place 'one per day' is honest.

Shoes: two, packed like they matter

Walker on your feet. Dress pair in a cloth bag, stuffed with socks. A third pair is a checked bag or a ruined back. Beach flip-flops are the exception if they weigh nothing and will see water. Do not pack a new shoe.

The bag has a size, not a vibe

A 40L backpack or a carry-on that fits the airline's published dimensions, not the one you 'have always gotten away with.' Roll knits, fold shirts, wear the coat. Liquids in a 1L bag at the top. If you are sitting on the zipper, something is a souvenir you have not bought yet — take it out now.

Questions, answered

Can I do 10 days in a personal item only?
In one warm climate, with merino, maybe. You will wear the same trouser hard. Two climates or a dress code: you want the overhead bin.
What if there is no sink wash?
Add tops and underwear, not shoes. A hotel laundry day on day five is cheaper than a second suitcase.
Should I pack cubes?
One cube for tops, one for bottoms, a pouch for dirty. Cubes are walls. They do not create space.
