The jean has to meet the jacket halfway
Dark, even wash, no holes, a hem that belongs to a shoe. Straight or a mild taper. Wide-leg works if the blazer is shorter and the top is tucked so there is still a waist. Light ripped skinny under a pinstripe is a costume of 2011.
The blazer should not be the suit
A navy unstructured blazer, a hopsack, a knit blazer, even a cotton one in summer. A matching suit jacket, especially black and fused, still looks like you lost the trousers. If it is the only jacket you have, keep the rest quieter — white shirt, dark jean, leather shoe — and save for a real blazer.
The shoe decides if this is work or the weekend
Loafer or derby: you can walk into most smart-casual offices. Clean leather sneaker: weekend and creative offices. Foam runner: gym, even if the blazer is expensive. Belt matches the shoe. The knit or shirt at the neck should be finished; a stringy hoodie under a blazer is a different, louder look that needs intent.
