Stacking Rings: How Many, How Wide, Which Finger
Two or three rings, total width 6–8 mm on one finger, mixed 1.5 / 2 / 3 mm. Five identical 2 mm bands is a knuckle cuff. Leave a little air.

Width budget, not piece count as a personality
A 2 mm wedding band plus a 1.5 mm contour plus a 2 mm spacer is a stack. Adding a 8 mm cigar band on top of that is a gauntlet. Keep the total under ~8 mm on one finger unless you are doing that on purpose. Mid-finger (above the first knuckle) stacks should be even slimmer — 3–4 mm total — or they will chew the web of the finger.
Leave 0.5 mm of visual air, or a deliberately contoured “shadow band,” so skin does not pinch. Comfort-fit interiors do not nest; if the wedding band is comfort, use a spacer or accept a gap.
Metal, size, and which finger
Same color family looks decided: all 14k yellow, or yellow plus one rose 1.5 mm. Mixing 0.5 micron plate into the everyday gold edit is how the stack goes brassy at the edges first. Size the stack as a unit. Index and middle fingers take a 10–14 mm signet plus one slim band; pinky takes a 8–10 mm signet alone. Ring finger is where wedding math lives — do not park a 6-ring stack there and then add a 6.5 mm solitaire.

When the stack is the wrong idea
Jobs with gloves, kitchens with dough, climbing, and any week you will resent taking six rings off to wash your hands. A single 2 mm band and 12 mm huggies is still a full jewelry sentence. Buy the third ring after you have worn two for a month, not in one checkout because a photo had seven.
Questions, answered
- Should every stacking ring be the same size?
- Same finger, same size to start. A 3 mm band may need a quarter up versus a 1.5 mm. When in doubt, match the widest ring’s size.
- Can I stack on both hands?
- Yes if you repeat a metal so it looks decided. Seven rings on the left and a bare right hand looks like you forgot to finish dressing.
- Will stacking scratch 14k?
- Yes, especially a polished 2 mm against a sandblasted 3 mm. That is wear, not a defect. Matte and milgrain hide it better than high polish.
