Trouser Length for Tall Women: Inseam Numbers, Not 'Long' Tags
A tag that says Long is a guess. Your inseam, the shoe, and the break are the measurement. Most 'long' still needs a hem or still floods.

The number on a pair that works
Stop trusting S/M/L/Long. Lay a favourite trouser flat, measure crotch to hem, write it down next to the shoe you wore. That is your target. Brands that sell 34 and 36 inseams are worth a bookmark. Brands that only sell 32 will always be a tailor visit.
Rise changes the look of the same inseam. A high rise with a 34 can look longer than a low rise with a 36.

Break, crop, wide-leg
A slight break (one fold on the shoe) is the default for creased trousers. No break is cleaner and needs a precise hem. A flood that shows sock on a tall frame reads as a miss, not as fashion, unless the ankle is narrow and the shoe is a choice. Wide-leg: longer than you think. If you see too much shoe, it looks accidental.
The rest of the garment still has to fit
A 36-inch inseam on a pair with a size-10 rise and size-8 waist is not a win. Shoulders and sleeves on coats are the other tall tax — have them lengthened or buy a tall block. Do not only fix the jeans and live with a blazer that hits at the wrong rib.
Questions, answered
- Should I leave extra hem for heels?
- Have two lengths if you live in both flats and a 7cm heel. Or hem to the shoe you wear four days a week and accept a slight break with the other.
- Can I wear cropped trousers if I am tall?
- Yes if the crop is sharp and the shoe is not a chunky trainer that adds another visual stop. A random too-short hem is not a crop.
- Are men's long inseams a hack?
- Sometimes, for straight trousers, if the waist and hip work. The rise and seat are cut differently. Try them on. Do not mail-order a 36W 36L and hope.
