What the shape is honest about
The body is a tube. There is no sleeve, no file, and often no zip — a drawstring and maybe a magnetic under-flap. That is fast at a café and slow when you need a key in a car park. A 18–22cm diameter base holds a bottle upright; a slimmer 14cm base does not. Empty weight of 0.5–0.9kg is typical in calf, 0.4–0.6kg in canvas.

The bucket is a cousin of the slouch tote: it looks soft and it dumps. If you wanted structure, you wanted a structured tote, not a cinch.

When to buy one anyway
Evenings, markets, and days you already have a crossbody or tote for the laptop. A bucket is a second bag, not a one-bag system. Leather with a lined interior and a zip pocket for keys is the version that does not become a well. Canvas at $60–$110 is rational if you treat it as a summer bag.
Skip chain straps under 1cm. Skip unlined suede interiors that stain from a pen. Skip any listing that says it fits a laptop.
