Fibre, not vibe
Canvas is woven cotton (sometimes cotton/poly). Weight is in ounces per square yard: 10oz is a market tote, 14–16oz is a tote that can take a book stack. Unwaxed canvas stains and soaks. Waxed canvas is a different care object — waxed canvas care.
Nylon is a filament. 210D packable totes stuff into a pocket and weigh 0.08–0.15kg; they do not stand. 400–1050D totes stand more, take a zipper, and still dry fast. Ballistic nylon is a weave, not a magic word.

Work, shop, travel
Work: nylon with a zip and a 13-inch sleeve, or canvas only if it is structured and closes. An open 24-litre canvas shopper is not a laptop bag. Shop: canvas. Travel personal item: nylon, because sizers and rain.
Leather handles on canvas are the usual failure at year three if the canvas outlives the trim. Wipe the leather. Do not machine-wash a leather-trim tote on hot and then blame cotton.

- Is canvas more “natural” so it lasts longer?
- Canvas lasts if you dry it. Nylon lasts if the zipper holds. Fibre origin is not a lifespan.
- Can I take canvas in rain?
- Unwaxed canvas will darken and soak. Short rain is fine if you dry it stuffed. Long rain is nylon or waxed canvas.
- What denier should I buy?
- 210D for packable. 400–600D for a daily tote. 1000–1050D or ballistic for a work bag that will sit on pavement.
