Heat is the fabric, the invite is still the code
Cocktail in July is still cocktail: knee-to-midi, real cloth, a dark suit for men — in tropical wool, not winter flannel. Garden-casual is linen and an unstructured jacket you remove. Black tie in a humid ballroom is a dinner jacket in a lighter wool, not a skip of the code because you are hot.

Color that holds in hard light
High summer light washes pale nude and ice blue. Terracotta, olive, slate, rust, a real navy, a print on a mid ground. Neon fights the grass. White is still the bride’s. A cream linen suit on a man is the common ‘but it is not white’ mistake in photographs.
Sweat, lining, and a wrap anyway
Unlined viscose clings by vows. Pay for lining or pick linen and cotton. A $40–$120 wrap for the church and the evening drop. Men: an unstructured jacket, a cotton or linen shirt in the $60–$150 range, no polyester ‘performance’ that shines in flash.

- Can men skip the jacket?
- After vows, often. During a cocktail or church ceremony, wear it, then take it off. An open polo as the whole look is not cocktail.
- Is a long dress too much in heat?
- A light, lined long dress can work at an evening summer wedding. A heavy satin column at 2pm on a lawn does not.
- What if the wedding is on sand?
- Stop reading this and use the beach wedding guide. Sand is a different shoe and a different cloth.
