What to Wear to Thanksgiving Dinner
A stretch waist, photographable knits, not a pilgrim costume. You will sit, eat, and possibly nap in this.

The waistband is the dress code
You will sit for hours. Elastic with a presentable exterior — a knit dress, wool-blend trousers with a bit of stretch, dark jeans without a rigid top block — is the adult move. A pencil skirt that only zips before gravy is a mistake you will not repeat.
Merino and cotton knits hide a meal better than a silk blouse that spots with cranberry. Forest, rust, burgundy, navy, cream. Orange novelty sweaters are a bit, not an outfit.

Not a costume
Turkey ties, matching pajamas, and a hat with a buckle photograph as content, not as a family. If the hosts are doing matching PJs, guests still wear real clothes unless they were sent a pair. You can be festive in color without dressing as the calendar.
Coats, pies, and other people’s floors
A coat you can hang on a crowded peg. Shoes you can take off — wear socks you would show a stranger. If you are bringing a dish, wear something that will not be ruined by a splash in their kitchen. A $20–$35 bottle is still a better guest gift than a scented candle the size of a roast.
