What to Wear to Easter Service
Pastel is a photograph habit, not a requirement. The building still wants covered shoulders. Brunch is a second outfit or a clever first one.

Pastel is optional
American Easter photography loves butter yellow and seersucker. The liturgy does not. A navy blazer, a cream dress, a gray suit are correct. If you like color, pick one garment in a soft shade rather than a head-to-toe Easter-egg look. White is fine as a shirt, not as a guest-of-wedding column.

The packed service of the year
Easter and Christmas fill the building with people who do not usually come. That is not a reason to underdress; it is a reason the ushers notice gym shorts. Covered shoulders, hem at the knee, a jacket for men in traditional rooms. Quiet soles. Phone off.
Brunch is not the sanctuary
A restaurant after can take the jacket off and a slightly more open neckline. If you only have one look, pick the church and eat in it. A $40–$90 cotton or linen-blend dress, or chinos and an oxford, with a cardigan, does both. See brunch if the meal is the actual event and the service is optional for you.

- No, unless your specific church’s culture wears them. A hat that blocks the row behind is rude even when it is traditional.

- In the American South, at a daytime service, a navy-and-white seersucker jacket can look finished. In a stone cathedral in Boston, wear navy wool.
- Is black too grim for Easter?
- A black dress with a cream cardigan is fine. Head-to-toe funeral black is the wrong feast.
