These people still have your Slack. Festive is one note. Employed is the rest.

Still your colleagues
HR did not take the night off. A velvet blazer over the weekday formula, or a midi with opaque tights, is the range. Novelty ties, mistletoe headbands, and a sequin mini become stories that outlive the canapés. If you would not wear it in a photo with your manager, do not wear it.
| Note of festive | Yes | Monday problem |
|---|---|---|
| Texture | Velvet blazer $120–$280, silk shirt, merino in jewel | A sweater with bells |
| Jewelry | Small gold, one earring that stays put | Chandelier that hits the microphone on a toast |
| Hem | Knee to midi | Club mini, bodycon bandage |
| Theme | Only if the invite named one | DIY sexy Santa |
Venue split: conference room, restaurant, bar
A hotel restaurant is client-dinner clothes. A bar crawl is dark jeans and a shirt you can stand in. The office itself with a playlist is business casual plus the velvet. Match the room the company paid for, not the Pinterest board titled ‘office party.’
Coats, bags, and getting home
A coat you can check or hang. A bag that zips, not a tote of files. Closed shoes you can stand in for two hours and then walk to a car in. If the party is at the office, do not leave a sequin trail on the carpet you vacuum with these people.
Questions, answered
- Can I wear sequins?
- One sequin piece, matte everything else. A full sequin dress is a club, and Monday will remember it.
- Is a suit too much?
- A dark suit without the interview tie is correct at a restaurant party. At a bowling alley outing, it is too much.
- What if I have a second party after?
- A dark midi or navy suit is the bridge. Change jewelry, not a whole identity in an Uber.
